Accepting that we’re not in control of what happens in this interconnected universe, how then do we live with this reality? Jonathan presents “co-determinism” as the middle ground between fatalism and fantasy, and revisits AAAlignment as the practical alternative to fighting against the flow of life.
Episode 7 brings Series Two’s philosophical insights into practical application. Jonathan offers his framework of “co-determinism” — recognizing we have essentially no ability to control external circumstances but tremendous influence over how we perceive and respond to them, which can materially affect what happens next.
He shows how co-determinism bridges acknowledging our cosmic connection with navigating daily life accordingly. Drawing on the Taoist concept of wu wei and using improv theater as a metaphor for conscious participation, Jonathan demonstrates how AAAlignment creates more meaningful outcomes with far less effort by shifting from struggle to co-creation.
Through personal stories of his journey from brute-force living to AAAlignment — including three near-death experiences and other events that became wake-up calls — he shows how awareness accumulates “drip by drip” rather than through sudden epiphanies. He provides practical guidance for beginning this shift: noticing when you’re fighting versus flowing, questioning underlying wants, and gradually reorienting through patient, self-compassionate awareness.
Jonathan also addresses his tongue-in-cheek episode title, explaining that “Life. Easier. Better.” isn’t about being lazy or passive — it’s about being aware and judicious. It’s not about getting more or winning more battles, but about wanting less and avoiding unnecessary opposition, being present to “what is” rather than fixating on “what isn’t.”
This episode illustrates what life looks like when we stop swimming upstream and start flowing with the current — accepting reality while maintaining conscious participation in shaping our experience within it.
